Wildlife, education & Media on Facebook
Welcome to W.E.M School!
The onset of COVID-19 and the lock-down affected people around the world. W.E.M School began as a suggestion by a classmate Emma Holland, using the Facebook page we set up for University to aid the parents now faced with the challenge of educating and entertaining their children at home.
As a group of second year students, we created 23 daily lessons using a questions and answer format including 19 individual subject lessons and 4 recap lessons, which spanned a month over Easter 2020. Firstly we introduced the main animal groups, mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians, insects & invertebrates, then moved through different habitats, pollination, pollution, evolution, plants (both terrestrial and marine), food chains and nutrition, structure and function, adaptations and communication. We also included a special Easter themed lesson to highlight the fact science can be found anywhere.
Please click to open the lessons below to see the lessons I created and the subjects I undertook as well as the group recap lesson.
These were designed using the following aspects of England's 2013 Department of Education Key Stage 2 Science National Curriculum:
-
Using observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions
-
Exploring the world around you
-
Identifying and naming a variety of common wild and garden plants

-
Identifying and naming a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals
